Stephen Peters is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences at Lehigh University. His research focuses on quantifying low-temperature geochemical processes using trace-element and isotope techniques. He investigates mineral weathering, metal speciation and transport, groundwater contamination, and mercury cycling, with an emphasis on understanding global geochemical cycles and environmental health.

Peters is the Director of Lehigh’s Field Camp, leading hands-on, multi-week field-based mapping and geology courses. He teaches a number of courses, including hydrogeology, aqueous geochemistry, and physical/chemical processes at Earth’s surface.

He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan (2003), his M.S. from Dartmouth College (1999), and his B.S. from Bates College (1992).
